Yoga for Balance and Stability is designed for students who are recovering from injury, working with limited mobility or special conditions, or looking for more supported ways to build strength and improve balance. We use chairs and a variety of props so that all students can experience the stretching and strengthening benefits of yoga regardless of their current physical condition. While some students may transition to the floor for the last part of the practice and for relaxation, others may choose to continue practicing with the support of a chair. Students who need to stay seated for the duration of practice are welcome and encouraged to join!

Anna Zabolotsky

Anna has been teaching popular yoga and Pilates classes at Circle Yoga since 2004, and she has worked for over 10 years with students of ages ranging from young to mature, both able-bodied and challenged, and with all levels of athletic experience and skill. She is a Certified Yoga Teacher and Pilates Instructor, as well as a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Anna's classes are fun, light-hearted and intelligent, and each student is encouraged to measure performance in consideration of personal immediate and long-term objectives, rather than in comparisons with others. She seeks to connect with each student individually, learning who they are and how she can support their goals, including their desire to embrace an active pain-free lifestyle, to recover from injury, to learn and practice optimal injury prevention, and to live more skillfully inside and outside their bodies.

What to expect in class

Anna takes a holistic approach to all her classes, whether it is Pilates or yoga, integrating ancient yoga and traditional Pilates teachings with the most current, scientific, evidence-based research in Exercise Science. Mindfulness is the foundation of every class, as workouts are designed to focus on breath and biomechanical alignment while addressing the major components of fitness training - aerobic capacity, muscle strength, endurance and flexibility. Props are often used and modifications are made when needed on an individual basis. Anna's classes are motivational, and her hope is that every student will leave class feeling uplifted and empowered, having enjoyed the challenge of learning something new and pushing their own perceived boundaries.

Eileen Hemphill

Eileen practiced yoga for 16 years before completing the RYT-200 certification at Grace Studios in Silver Spring, MD, in 2022. She started teaching immediately and currently teaches Vinyasa Flow and Chair Yoga classes. Her commitment to inclusivity and strong desire to help others experience the life-enhancing benefits of consistent practice led her to complete an additional certification as an Accessible Yoga Instructor. As a teacher, Eileen believes yoga should be accessible for individuals of all ages and abilities. She has taught teens, adults, and seniors and enjoys sharing her knowledge and learning from her students. She finds that adaptations and using props can help some individuals explore a wider range of postures. Her classes offer all students a safe and supportive environment and pose sequences that flow with energy and grace, effort and ease. She is grateful to the gifted teachers whose guidance and mentoring led to teaching yoga with joy and compassion.

Delores Simmons

During her 15 years in the wellness industry, Delores has worked with a wide range of clients, including beginners, persons with limited mobility, fitness enthusiasts and seniors. After teaching strength and Pilates for many years, she came to yoga in 2018 after experiencing a side-lining foot injury and mental burnout (both as a fitness instructor and an attorney). While completing her yoga teacher training in 2019, she was pleasantly surprised by the increased mental and physical resilience she experienced when engaging in the movement aspect of yoga, as well as when practicing breathwork and meditation.

All of these yogic practices were crucial to her well-being after learning that her 22-year-old godson—a Private in the army—had died by suicide. Delores now supports others who are navigating the grief journey by serving as a GriefShare facilitator and a Mindful Grieving Yoga facilitator. She also supports military and Veterans populations through her work as a Warriors at Ease trauma informed yoga and mindfulness instructor.

While working with these populations, Delores developed a love for teaching accessible yoga classes that are welcoming to persons regardless of age, size, ability, or experience level. To that end, she completed her Accessible Yoga Training and teaches a wide-variety of classes, including yoga classes where her chair and non-chair students can practice alongside one another. Delores’ students often comment that they appreciate her clear cues, calming voice, and her ability to explain how they can adapt yoga poses to address their injuries, as well as mobility and flexibility challenges.
